Book: The quiet hourHead spa and scalp care in Fort Lee
Palisade Head Spa has three private rooms and six therapists on Lemoine Avenue. Every session runs the same five steps, and we tell you the minutes of each. We are taking new clients.

The session
This is the 90-minute session. The shorter and longer sessions keep the same order and change how long the massage lasts.
Your therapist looks at your scalp and hair in good light and asks what you'd like and what to avoid. It is a look, not a diagnosis.
Warm water at the basin and a gentle cleanse, with your head supported the whole time.
Slow, steady pressure over the scalp, neck and temples. Your therapist asks how it feels at the start and halfway, and stops when you say.
A long, warm rinse, then a towel wrapped around your hair and a minute to sit up slowly.
A towel dry and a gentle blow-dry, or a plain comb-out if you'd rather leave it to air.

Three rooms
Quiet, warm and low-lit.
Each room has a reclined chair, a ceramic basin and a steamer. The two-chair room has a sheer curtain between the chairs, so a friend can book beside you.
Reclined chairs and warm-water basins
Soft steam, at your pace
Lights kept low, voices kept lower

Plans
Book a single session, or a run of three or six with the same therapist. Each plan lists its terms in full.
One visit
Any length, booked when you like.
Three visits, two weeks apart
A short run to find the rhythm that suits your scalp.
Six visits, a month apart
A long run for clients who want a regular, quiet hour.
All six dates are set at your first visit.
Before you book
A head spa is a cleanse and a massage, not a treatment. If any of these is true for you, ask your doctor before you book, and tell us when you do.
We don't massage over broken skin. Wait until it has healed, or until your doctor says it is fine.
Ask whether massage, warm water and steam suit it. We follow what your doctor tells you.
Lying back at the basin and a firm neck massage may not suit you yet.
The chair is reclined and the steam is warm. Both are worth asking about.
Many people book while pregnant. Ask your doctor first, and we will adjust the chair and the steam.
Tell us when you book. We can use plain warm water and an unscented cleanse.
The six of us
Book the therapist you'd like by name, or let us choose for you.

Owner and lead therapist
Karyn opened the shop and keeps its schedule. She trains every therapist in the scalp check and takes the 120-minute sessions herself. New clients who want to talk before they book can ask for her.

Therapist
Kelsie works slowly and says little. She asks about pressure at the start and again halfway, and she is the one to ask for if you want a very quiet session. She speaks Mandarin.

Therapist
Claribel is gentle with curly and wavy hair at the basin and takes her time over the rinse. She works Wednesday through Sunday and speaks Spanish with clients who prefer it.

Therapist
Azaria works with locs, twists, braids and coily hair, and plans the cleanse, the rinse and the dry around the style you are wearing. Tell her how long you want to keep it.

Therapist
Giulia does the shoulder and neck add-on most often, and the blow-dry and style at the end of a session. Ask her about the finish if you are going somewhere afterward.

Therapist
Dewayne gives the firmest massage on the team. If you like deep, steady pressure, or you have never had a head spa and want it explained as it goes, book with him.
“I came in tense after a long week and left sleepy. Kelsie asked about pressure twice and never talked over the quiet.”
“The steps are timed, so I knew when the massage was coming and how long it would last. Nothing felt rushed.”
“They asked about my scalp before anything else, and told me plainly when to check with my doctor first.”
